With Need for Speed NITRO dropping today, we're kicking off a new feature on the SHIFT side of things this week: a series of 3D rendered turntables of cars featured in the game.
First up we have the Porsche Cayman S bonus car.
It’s not often that you see a coupe derive from a convertible, but the Porsche Cayman is a direct descendant of the second generation Porsche Boxster drop-top. While the Boxster is no slouch off the line, the Cayman is a serious performance car that loves the left lane. The Cayman has been featured in several NFS games and returns in SHIFT.
Performance-wise, the Cayman S is close to the 911 Carrera, Porsche’s flagship sports coupe, as it was a mere five seconds behind the Carrera during a test lap at Nürburgring Nordschleife and many enthusiasts believe if the Cayman S had limited-slip differential – which was not available at launch - it would have been able to topple the Carrera.
The Cayman S runs 0-60 in slightly over five seconds and churns out nearly 300 horsepower from its 3.4-litre flat-six engine.
A common misconception about the Cayman is that it is not named after the Cayman Islands, but actually after the caiman, an alligator-like animal found in South and Central America. You can easily outrun any caiman in a Cayman S.
Much like the Coke Zero Dodge Viper, the bonus Cayman S can only be acquired by entering a code in Need for Speed SHIFT. The code was available as a pre-order bonus for racers playing SHIFT on their PCs.
We’re not going to tell you that code here, but burning down the tracks in SHIFT with a Cayman S is a real treat.
