Car of the Day: Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Comments (6)

Is there a car that says ‘America’ in a louder, more ostentatious way than the Chevrolet Corvette? Now entering its sixth decade in production, the Vette is as fresh, fast and elegant as ever and a redesign for 2006 brought the C6 to the road and track.

The Z06 has a growling 7-liter – or 427 cubic inch – V8 that was codenamed LS7 and is built by hand at GM’s Performance Build Center in Michigan which is efficient enough to get nearly 25 miles per gallon.

And it goes like hell. The Z06 fires out 505 horsepower, running a sub-12 second ¼ mile and 0-60 in only 3.6 seconds. The quintessential American dream car is a cornerstone of the NFS universe and one of the most exhilarating cars to drive in SHIFT.

The LS7 is wrong ! The LS7 with 465 hp and 490 lb·ft

version of the 454, dubbed LS7 was also designed but never went to production. However, a handful of LS7 intake manifolds were produced and sold by a few Chevy dealers as performance parts. The LS7 was later offered as a crate engine from GM and advertised at 500 hp. I am a former Chevrolet dealer and Owned 2 of the 454 LS7's. One was in a 1970 SS Nova and the other a 1970 Chevelle SS. I now race an L88 427 in my 73 Z28. Out of all the Rat motors, the L88 and ZL1 427's are the Kings of Big Blocks. Love the game !

I'm partial to the Corvette over the Viper - it's better suited to everyday driving and handles much better.

505HP is a bit weak for a 7-liter engine, compared to comparable engines from European cars. The Z06 is a good car, but I'm not sure it's the "American dream car" anymore, now that the ZR1 is on the road. Just over a $100,000 for a car that's not only good on the road, but near god-like on the track and much, MUCH cheaper than any equivalent European supercar.
@St. Anne:

While the Viper SRT10 may be faster than the standard Z06, it's a hell of a lot harder to handle on the road and on the track.
