1995 was the final year for the RX-7 in North America with the RX nameplate disappearing back across the Pacific until 2003, when the RX-8 bowed.
The final RX-7 was the most powerful Mazda built, churning out as many as 261 fleet horses mated to a five-speed manual transmission – automatics had slightly less – and adding a curvier body that was arguably the most attractive RX-7 produced.
As with all Mazda’s sports cars, the RX-7 sported the Wankel Rotary engine that was famous for kicking out tons of power to high-revving drivers despite its small (1.3-liter) size.
Highly customizable, tuners have been enjoying the RX-7 for years in both racing and drifting competitions. See how powerful you can make yours in SHIFT.
