Since the launch of Need for Speed SHIFT, I’ve noticed a couple of things happening on YouTube. A lot of people have been uploading videos of themselves playing the game, and some of them have been submitted as responding to our own videos. That’s when a light went off in my head – what if we had a weekly challenge where YouTubers could compete against one another via their gameplay videos?
Here’s how it will work. Each Tuesday morning, I’ll pick a car and track, record myself doing one lap, and post the video to the NFS YouTube channel. Anyone who wants to beat my time can record their own video and post it as a response to mine. Each week’s challenge will run from Tuesday until the following Monday morning at 9am PST. At that point, we’ll announce two winners – one for the best lap time, and the other for the most-viewed video. That way, even if you’re not the fastest driver, you’ll still be in the running if you can get a bunch of people to see your video.
As for the prizes, each week’s two winners will get something from our giant pile of Need for Speed swag, along with the world-wide notoriety that comes with the title ;-)
For the Week 1 challenge, we’ve gone into the SHIFT demo and chosen the following … Car: BMW M3 E46 Track: London River
So, have fun! Just make sure to use the same car and track, keep it to one lap per video, and however you choose to record it, make sure your final time is clearly readable. Post it to your YouTube account and submit it as a response to our Week 1 video (embedded below). And, there’s no limit to the number of video responses you can post, so if you see your best time beaten by someone else, get back in and record a better one. And to make your video easier to track, please remember to tag it with NFS and put a link to needforspeed.com in the video’s description.
If you have any questions, please drop me a line at michael@needforspeed.com and I can help you out.
Happy gaming and good luck! NFS Mike
UPDATE: There has been a THIRD way you can claim a prize in the weekly YouTube challenge :) Now, by simply posting a response you can get a shot to win a prize. We'll have a random draw of all the participants to determine the third winner! Thanks to Andre for coming up with the idea!
