Car of the day: Koenigsegg CCX
Comments (4)

When North Americans think of Swedish cars, flashy and fast don’t typically come to mind. But the 2006 Koenigsegg CCX is not only beautiful but faster than a greasy cheetah.

The CCX – an abbreviation for ‘Competition Coupe X’, with ‘X’ being the 10th anniversary of Koenigsegg, which sent its first car to market in 1996 – goes from zero-to-60 in 3.2 seconds and squeezes a staggering 806 horsepower into its mid-engine, 4.7-liter, 32-valve V8, but still runs happily on the same 91 Octane you pump into a Volkswagen GTI.

Its body is composed of both carbon fiber and Kevlar and has a ground clearance of less than four inches, but if you’re riding in a CCX, you’re not going over any speedbumps.

The engine block for the CCX was cast by Grainger and Worrall, a British company that specializes in making drivetrain pieces for Formula One cars, which should tell you all you need to know about the Swedish car that blows away any preconceptions of modesty.

That's a good point. Our cars of the day are all featured in SHIFT, so the 'regular' CCX seen here is actually a 2006 model, whereas the CCXR wasn't revealed until a year later.

for me, the Koenigsegg is car of the day every day :P (but why no mention of the CCXR with 1018bhp on environmentally friendly biofuel)
