Driver Profile
Matt Powers
Growing up in Southern California, Matt began surfing competitively in San Diego at a young age. His first car was a 1984 533i 5 speed BMW hand-me-down which he started sliding sideways on his way to school. Not knowing at the time that he was in fact “drifting”, Matt has been doing so for almost 6 years now.
Becoming a Formula Drift driver in 2008 after placing second at the ProAm Nationals, Matt gained notoriety after finishing fourth at the 2009 Formula Drift Championships in Irwindale as a privateer.
Matt has garnered a lot of attention for his car, style and grassroots appeal, but in 2010, he focused on proving the substance behind the style and finished the season overall in the Top 16.
