Formed in 2009 by Electronic Arts, developer of the blockbuster Need for Speed video game franchise, Team Need for Speed is an international association of professional drivers, builders, mechanics and support crews representing a range of automotive disciplines.

During its first competitive season, Team Need for Speed participated in the European FIA GT3 Championship (Patrick Soderlund / Edward Sandstrom), the US-based Formula Drift series (“Mad Mike” Whiddett / Matt Powers), D1NZ and Rockstar DriftNZ (“Mad Mike” Whiddett), Redline Time Attack (Christian Rado), and partnered with driver/builders in the US and Europe to complete 2 car builds: the Ford Mustang RTR-X (Vaughn Gittin Jr.) debuting at SEMA 2010 and the DMac AE86 (Darren McNamara) debuting in early 2011.

In 2011, Team Need for Speed returning to the track in Formula Drift, GT3, North American Time Attack events, and marquee endurance races including Dubai and Nurburgring 24HR. Along with an expanded presence in Europe, including select drift events and Gatebil in Norway, Team Need for Speed also welcomes a new team member in 2011, Fredric Aasbo. Coming off a Rookie of the Year performance in Formula Drift 2010, Fredric will pilot the Need for Speed Scion tC in North America and the Team Need for Speed Supra at select European events.

Team Need for Speed drivers and cars are featured in Need for Speed video games, including the most recent release, SHIFT 2: Unleashed.
