Track Guide: Silverstone Circuit

We're almost half way through the holiday track guides.  Today we're featuring the guide for Silverstone Circuit. Calling itself the ‘Home of British Motor Racing, Silverstone Circuit is one of the busiest tracks in the UK and has been the exclusive host of the Formula One British Grand Prix since 1987. Silverstone is five kilometers in length and twisty, with 17 total turns. The current lap record is still held by retired F-1 driver Michael Schumacher, who ran a lap of the track in one minute, 18 seconds back in 2004. In June of 2010, Silverstone will play host to a MotoGP race for the first time in more than 20 years. With an improved circuit and bikes with more than 200 horsepower, the race should be quite a spectacle. Just this year, a Lotus dealership opened on the grounds of Silverstone, giving the British marque a location near where its cars drive best. You don’t have to drive a Lotus to take on Silverstone in SHIFT, but with the track’s tight corners, you may want to try one.       Tomorrow we'll be featuring the track guide for SPA FRANCORCHAMPS.- NFSDrew
