Track Guide: Road America

On this, the third day of track guides we bring you the guide for the US based track Road America.  Located halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay, Wisconsin, Road America has hosted several different racing series, ranging from NASCAR to the American Le Mans series. It is one of 19 tracks included in SHIFT. Most of the track’s notoriety is due to its playing host to the Champ Car Grand Prix of Road America from 1982-2007, a race that was won six times by the Andretti family, with father Mario and son Michael each taking home three trophies. One of the most unusual incidents in racing history happened at Road America during a practice lap for the 2006 Champ Car Grand Prix when a deer ran on to the course near turn six and was struck by RuSPORT driver Cristiano da Matta. The deer flew into the cockpit, severely injuring da Matta, who was unconscious when he was sent to hospital and eventually underwent surgery for a subdural hematoma. Road America was designated as a historic place by the National Register of Historic Places in the United States in 2006.  There are 14 turns in Road America’s four-mile length, but driving it in SHIFT doesn’t put you at risk for a subdural hematoma. Enjoy!       Tomorrow's guide will feature the MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA.- NFSDrew
