This past weekend Need for Speed and Royal Purple ran a Time Attack Challenge at Formula D - Judgment Day in Irwindale, CA. The challenge was open to the Formula D driver's only and the grand prize for the challenge was $5,000 (the same amount as the purse for the Formula D - Judgment Day itself).
On Friday, all the Formula D drivers did a lap on the Brands Hatch. Only three drivers qualified for the finals but here are the top 10 drivers and there times:
1. Quoc Ly (45.300)
2. Carl Rydquist (45.500)
3. Darren McNamara (45.830)
4. Tony Brakohiapa (45.930)
5. Tyler McQuarrie (46.620)
6. Vaughn Gittin Jr. (46.660)
7. Chris Forsberg (47.850)
8. Daijiro Yoshihara (48.310)
9. Michael Essa (48.340)
10. Tanner Foust (49.790)
So it ended up being Quoc Ly, Carl Rydquist and Darren McNamara moving onto the finals. On Saturday before the Top 16 round of Formula D Quoc, Carl and Darren came by the Need for Speed tent to battle it out for the grand prize. In the Finals, the driver had to race a lap on the Nordschleife driving a Maserati MC12 GT1 in professional mode which meant that all assists were off. Very difficult...
First to drive was Carl Rydquist even though Darren was supposed to race first:
Carl finished with a time of 7:05:468. he wasn't very happy with that time and he said that "he left the door open for the other drivers". Next up was Darren McNamara:
Darren finished with a time of 7:01:541. Pretty good time on the Nordschleife. It would be very tough for Quoc to beat that time. Finally Quoc took stepped up and did his lap:
Quoc finished with an impressive time of 7:00:023 and WON THE TIME ATTACK COMPETITION!!
Overall, it was super cool to see the Formula D drivers play SHIFT and battle it out.
