Back in 1969, Ford engineers attempted to create a vehicle by combining the power of a muscle car with the handling prowess of a sports car. Ford originally intended to call the car Trans Am, but Pontiac had beaten them to it, applying the name to a special version of the Firebird. Larry Shinoda, who created the car's unique styling, came up with BOSS 302.

The Boss 302 was outfitted with a V8 302 cubic engine at 290 Horsepower and competition suspension including heavy duty springs and shock absorbers, and as such, was more powerful and out-performed the Camaro z28 in the 1970 series championships.
