For muscle car fans, the debate is back on. The Chevrolet Camaro made its much-anticipated return for 2010 and is poised to re-ignite the pony car war with fans of the Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang.
Modeled after the iconic 1969 Camaro, the 2010 SS is retro inside and out, with old-style gages, HVAC controls, and a classic three-point steering wheel once you sit down.
In SHIFT, you’ll get a chance to drive the production Camaro SS, which is powered by a massive, 6.2-liter (or, in muscle car terms, 378ci) V8, with the manual version pumping out 420 horsepower and the automatic getting 400.
Both engines are very close in a ¼ mile run, with the automatic transmission mated to an L99 having one-tenth of a second – 13.3 versus 13.4 - advantage over the stickshift on the LS3.
You can’t go wrong with either, but give the Camaro SS a whirl in SHIFT to see which you prefer.
