30 SECONDS OF INSPIRATION

The internet has made me lazy.

 

 

 

I remember when I used to have to go to a library or book store to get the infomation and reference I needed. Back when I was still in art school, I was working on a grad project that required a better understanding of Japanese pop culture. My solution was to go to a local mall called Yohan Center where I could rent VHS tapes of satellite feeds from Japan. That was my first exposure to some insane game shows, Japanese wrestling and the first time I laid eyes on a Street Fighter animated series.

 

 

 

Now, I'm sitting in front of my TV, watching an old repeat of Star Trek: The Next Generation and surfing YouTube on my laptop for inspirational car commercials. These are the types of car commercials you just don't see when watching Star Trek. The best of the best all in one spot and a great place to pull ideas and visual tricks that can be used to make the next NFS that much better. Whether it's an action sequence, camera work, or a visual treatment, car commercials have been giving cars their sex appeal long before video games came around.

 

 

 

One of the car companies that does an amazing job with their car commercials is Audi. Whether it's a slick showpiece, an action sequence or a humorous spot, they seem to nail it every time. I thought I'd include a few of my favorites, most of which feature the amazing Audi R8. My wife  and I saw one recently drive past us and while I marvelled out loud at how gorgeous it was, she turned and said, "Really? I'm not a big fan of the two-tone. Maybe if it was all one color." I still love her anyways.

 

 

 

Some great mood set in this piece. I grabbed the 4 minute version just so you could drool a bit longer. 

 

 

 

Superbowl 2009. Jason Statham and some clever sequencing. Nice action at the end.

 

 

 

Being Italian, I thought this one was very witty. 

 

 

 

And an added bonus just because the Godfather is my favorite movie of all time. Superbowl 2008 ad. They even cast Mo Green!!
