Shelby

The granddaddy of race-bred (but also street-legal) American cars, Carroll Shelby started his career as a devil-may-care racecar driver who broke the world's land-speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1954. After retiring, Shelby threw himself into creating his own racecars, with his Cobra (body by AC, engine by Shelby, a “side-oiler” 427ci V8) taking the 24 Hours Le Mans races in both 1966 and 1967. It was Shelby's racing and design skills that made his first true road cars, the GT350 and GT500 such a success, and if you take his newest GT500 out on the track in SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED, you'll see the man still has serious racing chops!
