The Speed of Sound
Yesterday, we posted this video and asked you to identify the car:
"We recently took a trip to Bruntingthorpe Airfield in the North of England with the Criterion Games sound crew and a few choice cars from the Most Wanted line-up.
"We strapped microphones to the exhaust pipes, engine bays and cooling ducts of some of the world's fastest cars to try and capture every decibel of authenticity.
"Then we persuaded a couple of guys from the team to stand still while we ripped past them at 150mph+ in high-end sports cars. These guys risked life and limb to bring you the very best car sounds, and survived the day intact. We do NOT recommend you try this home!
"We know Need for Speed fans love cars, but we wonder if you can guess which car was involved in this high-speed drive-by. If you scrutinize the video, there are some big clues.
"The eagle-eyed among you will recognize the distinctive colors of this car's famous livery despite our best attempts to mask them. Hit us on comments with your best guess.
"To get the answer, follow us on Facebook, come back tomorrow or look for clues on the blog right now."
A big thanks to the nearly 1,000 of you that answered. Some great guesses, some terrible ones and some that made us laugh. A lot.
Brandon Lee Bosch - "Mustang Boss 302... I think... Don't get to see or hear Mustangs much in South Africa…"
Aaron Karmacharya - "all i could hear was VROOM WHOOOSSSHHHHHH and a ton of wind:P"
John Watson "It sounded supercharged, I don't think it was a GT500 though, I think it might have been one of those Mustang RTR or a BOSS... not sure which one though."
Francisco Cano "BMW M3 E46 from Most Wanted"
Kevin Winterburn "1.1 Ford Fiesta"
Justin Johnson "I'm not a ford guy but that was a GT500, no question."
Luca Pietrolungo "As some people have pointed out to me it has become apparent that it is actually the E46 M3 GTR from the original MW."
Andres Bastidas "My bet is for a Nissan GTR, but for sure its a V8 engine."
Tyler LaCoste "Maybe the Lamborghini Aventador cause @lightning rose. It ain't no BMW. BMW has sort of a low pitch not high."
And of course…it's the BMW M3 COUPE!
You can just about make out the distinctive M Series livery colours through the masking! To find out more about this outstanding car, check out our M Series feature: BMW M3: Don't Leave Home Without One.

Congratulations to all these guys, who got it right:
Ercan Yeşiltaş, Brian Ong, Evan Penchuk, Abhijeet Mishra, Smart Do, John Goyt, Alex Ciubotariu and many, many more. TJ Eddy summed it up perfectly:
"American muscle, maybe. Sounded like it was high, though. 'Vette, Shelby, or knowing Need for Speed, a BMW."
Here's actual car used to make the recordings.
