Growing up in Southern California, Matt began surfing competitively in San Diego at a young age. His first car was a 1984 533i 5 speed BMW hand-me-down which he started throwing sideways on his way to and from school, not knowing at the time that he was, in fact, "drifting". Matt has been doing so for almost 6 years now.Becoming a Formula Drift driver in 2008 after placing second at the Pro AM Nationals, Matt gained notoriety after finishing fourth at the 2009 Formula Drift Championships in Irwindale, California with no sponsors. Having since partnered with Need for Speed, Nitto Tires, Part Shop Max, and Jim Wolf Technology, he is excited for the season ahead of him.
